Figs can be consumed fresh or processed into products such as jams and preserves. Dried figs are also a common form of this fruit.

PLANTING INFORMATION

  • Seed Collection: Gather seeds from mature fig fruits. Ensure you select healthy, ripe fruits, extract the seeds, and clean them thoroughly.

  • Seed Treatment: Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for a period, aiding in the removal of any remaining pulp and facilitating germination.

  • Sowing: During the appropriate sowing season, spread the treated seeds on the surface of seedling trays or small containers filled with seedling soil. Gently press the soil to ensure good contact between the seeds and the soil.

  • Maintain Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid excessive wetness to prevent seed rot. You can lightly spray water using a spray bottle or cover with a layer of transparent plastic film to retain humidity.

  • Light and Temperature: Place the seedling trays in a bright location, avoiding direct sunlight. Optimal temperatures, typically between 20-25 degrees Celsius, aid in seed germination.

  • Transplanting: When the seedlings reach an appropriate height, they can be transplanted into larger containers or outdoor planting locations.

NOTE

Support: Consider providing support for the young tree, especially in windy areas. This helps prevent tilting of the sapling.
Fertilization: Within the first few months after planting, apply appropriate organic or chemical fertilizers to promote healthy growth.
